A woman got down a bus where I was waiting. She was beaming with joy and you could tell that she was going to meet somebody. When I followed her gaze I saw it was a teen boy on his way to school. I half expected him to smile back at this loving woman. I assumed she was his mother. I was taken aback by his stoic response. He barely looked at her before he went back to his phone. Somewhere, deep inside me, I felt a pain twist and I felt very sorry for the lady. She continued showering her affection on what seemed like a mute form of rock.
